 Collection — Container: M96-1
Identifier: M96-1

Scope and Contents

The collection consists primarily of newspaper and scrapbook files relating to Mr. Hazouri's political and legislative activities. Few personal items are included. There is extensive documentation of this era in Jacksonville history which provides detailed information and research depth unavailable in any other single location. Major local issues covered during this period include: Transportation (Elimination of toll collection on Jacksonville bridges / expressways after voters approved a half-cent sales tax, March 1988); Environment (Garbage fee proposal, Odor / Tree ordinances, Billboard ban, Household recycling efforts / Southeast Landfill); Crime (substantial increases in police officers / fire fighters); Minority Relations (Affirmative Action policies, Blodgett Homes demolition); and Urban Economic Development. The collection complements the Joe Carlucci Collection. Mr. Carlucci was a Jacksonville City Councilman and Florida state legislator during the same period.
